Fiona Pears
New Zealand virtuoso violinist and composer Fiona Pears started performing as a soloist with orchestras at the age of 12. Now based in London, she has forged a career as an international soloist and recording artist which has seen her perform at many concert halls around the world as well as recording for EMI and Universal records releases.
Fiona released her third CD in 2006, “Memories of Home,” which has received rave reviews in the media. The end of 2007 saw the release of her second DVD, “Live at the ChristChurch Cathedral,” which was filmed in front of a capacity audience in February 2007, again receiving phenomenal reviews. The Christchurch press commented, “It left performers and audience breathless and will be remembered by all as a truly splendid night.”
During 2008 Fiona has already toured the US, Ireland and Jersey as well as performing at festivals and concert halls around England, Scotland and Wales. A personal highlight was a performance at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club in London’s Soho district.
2008 has also seen Fiona going back into the studio to record her forth CD, “Fire and Light,” which features the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra as well as her phenomenal New Zealand band. This CD showcases Fiona’s most beautiful, energetic and captivating compositions to date alongside her own interpretations of well-known pieces such as Khachaturian's, “Sabre Dance.” Fiona will also be making her first appearance on the silver screen as she has been asked to perform one of the tracks from the new album in a UK independent feature film, which is due for release in 2009.
Fiona will be embarking on a nationwide tour of New Zealand to promote the new CD during November 2008 and February 2009. (More details on the tour can be found on her website – www.fionapears.com)
Fiona is becoming well known as a composer. Her compositions are taken from her life’s experiences of travelling and meeting people as well as her love of many different musical styles. She performs a mix of Celtic, Gypsy, Latin and Classical music.
